Jordan has continued to hold their status as one of the more sought after brands this year, releasing a number of different Air Jordan colorways. While sneakers like the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 5 have been getting the most love, Air Jordan is showing love to some of the brand’s “less acknowledged” iterations with the new Air Jordan 9 “University Blue.”
Released on December 5th, the Air Jordan 9 “University Blue” is a great new addition to the lineup of Jordan 9 colorways. Although the silhouette was released in 1993 during Michael Jordan’s brief baseball run with the Chicago White Sox, it still maintains the look of a basketball sneaker. The “University Blue” colorway is made up primarily of black and white, with a white base complemented by a glossy black midsole. The midsole wraps around the shoe, rising up through the back ankle until it reaches the tongue lining. Black laces also help complement the white base that’s supported by eyelets of the same color. On the back ankle, blue makes an appearance in the form of 23 lettering and a Jumpmna globe, which stand out amongst the black background. Blue is also seen on the outsole’s Jumpman logo.
The Air Jordan 9 “University Blue” doesn’t live up to its namesake that well, but that does not make it a bad colorway. Although the title is a bit misleading, the new “University Blue” is both simple and complex, using only three colors while incorporating unique designs within the white base. Hopefully the release of the Air Jordan 9 “University Blue” sparks a fire that leads to the production of new Jordan 9 colorways.
