Ariana Grande and The Weeknd have both been making sure to bring fans the best of the best this year: Grande returned with a deluxe version of Positions, and The Weeknd blew fans away with his performance at the Super Bowl LV halftime show. With the success both have been seeing this year, they decided to capitalize and team up for the remix of “Save Your Tears.”
The remix was released on April 23rd, being teased by The Weeknd via Instagram just two days prior. The two are no strangers to collaborating, appearing together on tracks like “Love Me Harder” and “Off The Table” in the past. Their latest collaborative effort remixes “Save Your Tears,” one of the hit singles off of The Weeknd’s 2020 album, After Hours.
The “Save Your Tears” remix brings the two artists together in the perfect way, allowing both of them to perform by their lonesome before layering their vocals together. Grande opts for a lower tone on this track, allowing her to save her higher octaves for harder hitting moments. This fluctuation in tones keeps listeners on their toes, giving Grande the opportunity to steal the show with extensive verses and transitions
The 3:11 runtime allows Ariana to put on a stellar performance. Unfortunately, she axes The Weeknd’s time, relegating him to just a short verse and a partial chorus (she’s also present there). If The Weeknd had more time to showcase his talents, whether it be through harmonies or background vocals, the track would be perfect. We’re thinking that, with the amount of roles Grande plays throughout the track, Ariana’s presence can become somewhat overwhelming. Don’t get us wrong, this doesn’t take much away from the track; both artists still complement each other well.
Hearing The Weeknd and Ariana Grande together on a track is always a treat, even if Grande steals the show from the Canadian singer-songwriter. As the two continue to blossom in their careers, hopefully we continue to see more from them in the future.
