Drake Keeps Fans Waiting For His “Certified Lover Boy”

Drake has easily been one of the biggest artists of the last few years, working with a plethora of other creatives and seeing major commercial success. Since last year, fans have been on the edge of their seats waiting for him to drop more music. Well, they are in for a rude awakening—Certified Lover Boy will be delayed.

Back in May of 2020, the Canadian singer-songwriter released his mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes, featuring tracks such as “Chicago Freestyle” and “Pain 1993” feat. Playboi Carti, which received mixed reviews from fans. Since then, most fans have been waiting for Drake to drop more music, so this delay will not come lightly.

Despite being slated to drop in January 2021, as evidenced by a teaser video uploaded in October of 2020, Drake took to his Instagram in late January to inform fans of Certified Lover Boy’s delay. On his Instagram Story, he said “I was planning to release my album this month but between surgery and rehab my energy has been dedicated to recovery. I’m blessed to be back on my feet feeling great and focused on the album, but CLB won’t be dropping in January.” The Canadian singer-songwriter concluded by telling fans “I’m looking forward to sharing it with you all in 2021.”

Although fans and media outlets were adamant about Certified Lover Boy dropping in January, Drake cites his leg injury, surgery and subsequent recovery as the reason for the delay. He injured his leg sometime in October, as evidenced by a photo of his leg in a cast uploaded to social media. Although not confirmed, fans suspect that he tore his ACL due to the extensive recovery process.

With the delay of Certified Lover Boy, hopefully this gives Drake the time to polish the album and make sure that it’s perfect. Although a release date has not been confirmed, the album is expected to drop before the end of 2021 (perhaps even sometime before the end of February).
