Jordan Brand Kicks Off 2021 With A New “University Gold/Volt” Air Jordan 1

air jordan 1 volt gold release

Jordan brand had a great 2020, releasing a plethora of Jordan 1 colorways, such as “Dark Mocha” and “Satin Red,” while simultaneously giving love to some lesser known silhouettes, like the Air Jordan 9. It’s no surprise that, in 2021, the company is hoping to continue to cash in on its kicks, this time with the new Air Jordan 1 “University Gold/Volt” colorway.

With the amount of colorways in the Jordan 1 catalog, you may think that designers would start running out of ideas, but the “University Gold/Volt” proves you wrong. The shoe is dressed in volt, university gold, and black. Volt is seen on the collar, offsetting the university gold on the ankle and tongue tab as well as the black overlay and accents. The white laces, tongue and toe box help give more attention to the colorful sections of the shoe, which turns out to be a blessing and a curse.

The university gold and black go well together, but the volt on the collar turns out to be an eyesore. Since volt is only a slightly different tone from university gold, it obtrudes it, along with the ther colors on the shoe. This is not terrible for the Air Jordan 1 “University Gold/Volt,” but it does not work too much in its favor either. While the sneaker is not a groundbreaking entry in the Jordan 1 catalog, it’s still nice to see the brand thinking outside the box. With a retail price of $170 USD, it will certainly make the brand some money.

Scheduled to release on January 9th, the Air Jordan 1 “University Gold/Volt” is an interesting sneaker to kick the year off; either way, it will most likely make Jordan a good sum of money. Personally, it isn’t particularly high on the list of kicks to cop this year. With its unique choice of colors, would you want to get your hands on them?
