Kanye West’s ‘DONDA’ Now (Possibly) Postponed Until August 15

kanye west release date

Picture this:  it’s getting into the late hours of July 22nd and you just finished tuning into Kanye West’s live listening party for his upcoming album, DONDA. You’ve heard features from Playboi Carti, Lil Durk, and even Jay-Z, and there’s one more hour left until the album arrives. As the clock continues to tick, you become more restless, until finally an hour passes. After navigating through crashing streaming services, you arrive at West’s page only to find that DONDA isn’t there.

Now, I don’t know if that’s a universal experience, but that’s definitely how it happened for me. I had faith that Kanye West would pull through and bring us his long-awaited album, DONDA, but after hearing news that it was supposedly deleted and seeing various artists recording their verses inside of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium right before Ye’s performance, I became skeptical.

When the performance kicked off, the energy was at an all time high, with West previewing tracks with Playboi Carti and even getting vulnerable and talking about his family issues. As it continued, however, some of the songs sounded unfinished, pushing me to believe that something was wrong. As quickly as the event had started, it had ended. Although the back half of the album was somewhat overwhelming, I was still excited to see what Ye had to offer after over a year of not releasing an album. Unfortunately, I am still waiting.

Since the album didn’t arrive on it’s scheduled date of July 23rd, fans increasingly became eager for information, although they knew West had a habit of lying about release dates. Internet personality Justin Laboy came to their rescue, taking to Twitter to let them know that “Kanye West will move the release date of DONDA to August 6th. Thanks for your patience. He wants to give his fans the best possible product without rushing anything. He loves y’all with all of his heart. God bless.”

Most recently, news broke that the album will now (possibly) release on August 15. It remains to be seen if this date will be the official release.

Considering this album is set to release in celebration of West’s late mother, Donda West, who passed away in 2007, it is understandable that Ye would want to put out the best possible product to honor her legacy. Fans have also been waiting for the album since last year, when it was initially set to arrive in the summer. Hopefully we don’t have to wait much longer for release.

West is known for going back on his word when it comes to albums; personally, I’m just going to wait for more music to hit streaming services and see what he’s about. Do you think that he needs to take a breather and just work on DONDA for a longer period of time, or do you feel like getting in the booth is his #1 priority right now?
