Sneakers have dominated American culture for some time now; brands, such as Air Jordan and Nike, truly have become humongous corporations since they began operating. People around the world have been seen rocking Jordans and camping out for the hottest drops, but they have yet to become commonplace. Sneaker culture is beloved by many, and the LA-Based Brand Cölle is working to make it commonplace with the company’s sneaker-centered candles.
Founded in the mid-2010s, Cölle has been working to bridge the gap between lifestyle and streetwear—the goal is to coexist without the “immature” stigma that sometimes surrounds streetwear. This black-owned business has melded the culture with one of the most sought after lifestyle items ever, candles. Everyone loves candles, and the culture behind fashion and streetwear has a vast reach nowadays—so it comes as no surprise that Cölle has capitalized on this.
The candles are something unique to streetwear, taking a household concept and molding it to appeal to a different audience. Incredible detail is put into each candle, which can be really seen in the brand’s replica of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Red October”. If you take a quick glance, you may think that you are just looking at the actual sneaker; upon closer inspection, you’ll start to realize that it’s actually a candle with all of the same features—highlighting just how much attention to detail Cölle puts into the products.
The brand does not limit themselves to one category—creating a candle that resemble a bowl of Froot Loops, and using their own type of coconut wax to craft some pieces. Cölle has been continuously releasing new candles since 2016, and they don’t seem to be slowing down—the website restock is scheduled for October 30th at 12PM PST. Each piece is created with incredible craftsmanship and, as they continue to gain more traction, hopefully they get the proper recognition they deserve.
