Although Lil Uzi Vert has delayed releasing his upcoming The Pink Tape project, he’s still making sure to show fans what he’s got in store through features. His latest appearance is on Kawhi Leonard’s Culture Jam (Vol. 1), where he dives into the depths of his psyche and career on “Thankful.”

“Thankful” is the third track on the tape and features production from Working On Dying. Working On Dying creates a beat that is primarily made of piano keys and 808s. The relaxed tempo creates a soundscape that allows Uzi to reflect and reminisce on how thankful he is for his current position in life, an opportunity he takes full advantage of throughout the 3:15 minute runtime.

He opens the track by exclaiming “Boy, don’t make me do it, make me do it, make me do it. Boy, don’t make me prove it, make me prove it, prove it, prove it. I don’t gotta prove it, but I surely will go do it,” putting listeners into his state of mind before kicking things off. Allowing his emotions to pour out with lines like “I got too much on my mental. I got too many fallen angels,” Uzi’s reminiscence is somber considering the battles he’s faced along the way.

As the track progresses, Uzi tighten things up a little bit and takes a look back on the accomplishments he’s been awarded, due to his riches. He raps about what he will do with his money, with his family being one of the primary options. On “Thankful,’ Uzi reflects on his fame while acknowledging that it comes with risks. Despite this risks and losses, he is still thankful for the position he has been able to secure in life.

Personally, I enjoy the production on the track the best, as it sets the tone well with its use of soothing instruments. Although there are dips in Uzi’s deliverance, at some points, especially with the “been came in it” line, it’s still nice to hear him dive into some of his more personal feelings on “Thankful,” as it serves as a contrast to some of his recent music, especially Eternal Atake
