Lil Yachty Just Dropped His New Mixtape ‘Michigan Boy Boat’

Lil Yachty, despite often not getting the credit he deserves, is one of the few artists who has had longevity since he blew up back in 2015. Long after reaching stardom, he has been making sure to keep his fans satisfied, not only with appearances on tracks like “Flex Up” with Playboi Carti and Future “Greed” with Lucki, but also with his new mixtape, Michigan Boy Boat

Michigan Boy Boat was released on April 23rd, consisting of 14 tracks and coming in with a 40-minute runtime. It is Yachty’s first mixtape of the year and follows Lil Boat 3.5, the deluxe version of Lil Boat 3 that was released back in late 2020. It features a plethora of Michigan artists, such as Rio Da Yung OG, Veeze, and RMC Mike. When talking about his inspiration for Michigan Boy Boat, Yachty said in an online video that “I just found a love for Michigan, you know what I’m sayin’? The city is just a vibe that’s unmatched. I established this relationship, I was a fan of all these guys throughout Michigan, not just Detroit, tryna put them on a pedestal. Give ‘em the platform they may not have had before.”

Take a look at the full tracklist below.

  1. “Final Form”
  2. “Dynamic Duo” feat. Tee Grizzley
  3. “Concrete Goonies”
  4. “Don’t Even Bother” feat. Veeze & Baby Smoove
  5. “G.I. Joe” feat. Louie Ray
  6. “Never Did Coke” feat. Swae Lee
  7. “Ghetto Boy Shit” feat. RMC Mike
  8. “Plastic” feat. Icewear Vezzo & Rio Da Yung OG
  9. “Fight Night Round 3” feat. Babyface Ray & Veeze
  10.  “SB 2021” feat. Sada Baby
  11.  “Stunt Double” feat. Rio Da Yung OG
  12.  “SB5” feat. Sada Baby
  13.  “Hybrid” feat. Baby Tron
  14.  “This That One” feat. Krispy Life Kidd, Louie Ray, Slap Savage, Veeze, & YN Jay

Michigan Boy Boat emulates the sound of Michigan well; Yachty utilizes heavy bass along with an offbeat flow that keeps the tempo fast, yet relaxed. This proves to be a success on tracks like “Concrete Goonies” and “Dynamic Duo” feat. Tee Grizzley, but a failure on tracks such as “Fight Night Round 3” feat. Babyface Ray & Veeze (likely due to the quicker tempo). Another issue with the tape is that, despite being listed, Baby Smoove is not seen—this proves to be a letdown since “Don’t Even Bother” has an open verse for him.

Overall, Michigan Boy Boat is the perfect project for Yachty to kick his 2021 discography off; it shows his versatility while also putting on a number of Michigan rappers. Although he has not gotten the respect he deserves in the industry, Yachty is making sure to keep his head high and show the extent of his rap prowess.
