As of late, Nike has been working to become more sustainable and inclusive. The company has been releasing more sneakers that utilize recycled materials and allow access for disabled wearers, like the Nike Go FlyEase. One of the most sustainable sneakers within the catalog is the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next “Nature,” which the company boasts is its “most sustainably-minded performance shoe yet.”
The Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next “Nature” was revealed back in mid-September, and Nike made sure to let its audience know that the company has been working to be more environmentally-conscious. In an interview with HIGHSNOBIETY, the brand stated that “In the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next “Nature” specifically, the Flyknit was made using water bottles diverted from landfills. Repurposed waste from Nike’s factories were used in the midsole, plate, and Air units…[it] features at least 50 percent recycled materials by weight. This is the highest recycled content of any Nike performance shoe, although it’s unclear by how much.”
For how well the sneaker’s recycled content looks, the design is just as appealing. The upper is made of an amalgamation of colors, with gray taking up the majority. Vibrant pink finds itself on the tongue and foot opening, contrasting well with the gray. Hints of green, pink, and orange are seen underneath the gray upper, also serving as a good contrast for its muted surroundings. This is all held up by a cream foam midsole with Air Zoom technology and ZoomX branding.
The Nike Air Zoom Alphafly Next “Nature” is a great sneaker for the time, helping to curb Nike’s pollution by reusing some of the company’s own products alongside regular polluting objects. Although it may not be a big change in the grand scheme of things, it is a step in the right direction. I hope that Nike continues to ramp up its efforts of sustainability with the looming climate crisis.
