The Air Jordan 9 “University Gold” Scheduled For Late January Debut

Air Jordan "University Gold"

In 2020, Jordan brand continued to be a powerhouse in the sneaker community. The brand cemented its status (long ago) with the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 4 and continues to consistently provide sneakerheads with new colorways. Now that a new year is upon us, the band is set to drop its new Air Jordan 9 “University Gold” colorway.

Originally released during the 1993-94 season, the Air Jordan 9 is a silhouette that often remains under the radar. This is because, when it was released, Michael Jordan was just entering his first retirement, leaving the NBA to play baseball with the Chicago White Sox. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the sneaker has a smooth, lowkey look that is improved by its accents and overlays. It takes on a high top look that blends well with whatever outfit you choose, making it a silhouette to keep your eyes out for, especially with the upcoming release of the “University Gold” colorway.

Scheduled to release on January 30th, the Air Jordan 9 “University Gold” was initially teased in May 2020, with Instagram user @zsneakerheadz previewing a mock-up of the shoe. Throughout the rest of the year, the sneaker was teased a few times, with official images being released, followed by the reveal of the release date. The sneaker itself resembles the Air Jordan 9 “Citrus,” which was released in July 2010. The “University Gold” colorway is dressed in black, charcoal gray and university gold, with the base, laces and outsole done in black. The eyelets and midsole take on a charcoal gray color, serving as accents to complement the black base. University gold can be seen on the sock liner, ankle tab and Jordan branding throughout the sneaker. The branding helps spice up the shoe, with a globe-backed, golden Jumpman logo drawing attention to the back ankle. The Jumpman logo on the midsole also helps to draw attention with the golden tint cementing the sneaker’s polished look.

The dark colors on the Air Jordan 9 “University Gold” contrast well with the golden accents, creating a smooth and subdued look that can be paired with different types of outfits. If you want to go for a dark, relaxed outfit, you can pair the “University Gold” colorway with a pair of black jeans and a muted hoodie. If you want to draw more attention to the sneakers, you could pair them with a lighter casual outfit. The sneaker is available in full family sizing, which means you can get a pair for the whole household.

With a retail price of $190 USD, the “University Gold” colorway is scheduled to be released through Nike’s website and select retailers. The price tag is not something too crazy, but you will definitely have to keep your wallet full if you want to get your hands on a pair. What do you think of the shoe? Do you plan on getting your hands on the Air Jordan 9 “University Gold” or would you rather wait for another Jordan 9 colorway to release?
