Adidas has been on a roll this year, keeping the momentum up with a bunch of new colorways, ranging from collaborations with AFROPUNK to a full batch of Yeezys. As the brand continues to work its way through the year, Adidas is enlisting one of its more popular silhouettes, the Adidas Superstar, and pimping it out with three tongues.
Seeing the Superstar with three tongues is a pleasure, as it brings a fresh take to the silhouette. The triple tongue Superstar comes in two colorways, “Black” and “White,” both of which only subtly change things. The “Black” colorway consists of a black leather upper with three white stripes to contrast. “Superstar” appears in gold right above the first white stripe, letting onlookers know what sneaker the wearer is rocking. White also appears on the ankle branding, toe cap and sole, further serving to contrast the upper. The three tongues, although partially hidden by the laces, still spice things up (it’s one of the only sections that strays away from the traditional Superstar design).
The “White” colorway takes on a similar look, albeit with more color to match the upper. The upper is dressed in white leather, which also stretches to the toe cap, unlike the “Black” colorway. Black finds itself on the three stripes, as well as the ankle tab, where it is accompanied by a white trefoil Adidas logo. This colorway is simpler than the “Black” colorway, utilizing fewer sections of color (once again, here, the triple tongues help diversify its look).
It is nice to see Adidas adding some structural changes to a silhouette, as the brand has only been opting for cosmetic changes with most recent releases. Aside from the triple tongue look, Adidas also plans on embarking on a new journey with the AFROPUNK x Adidas Forum “Triple Platform.” It feels good to know that this isn’t a “one-off” idea.
If you plan on getting a pair of the Adidas Superstar “Triple Tongue” sneakers, keep your eyes peeled for the rest of the year; the expected drop should be sometime before the end of 2021. The shoe has a price tag of $85 USD and will most likely fly off the shelves.
