It’s no secret that La Flame is able to turn his own tracks into club anthems and bangers, but what people often don’t realize is that he has done the same to features. From “4 AM” by 2 Chainz to “Jump” by French Montana, Travis has proven that he can hold his own on tracks that aren’t his. For that reason, we’re breaking down his top 4 features. For this list, tracks off of Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho will not be included, as they are part of a joint tape with Travis Scott and Quavo.

#4: Company” by Drake: Back when he was still Travi$ Scott, Drake recruited the rapper for a feature on his album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. The feature came out of nowhere, but after listeners heard it, they couldn’t get enough of Travis. He comes in on the second half of the track with his signature autotuned voice, singing as the beat changes. As the beat progresses, Travis begins to rap, continuing to speed up as the song goes along. He raps about his pursuit of a girl at a function, but manages to make it hard and different from the earlier R&B elements of the track, spitting lines like: “It’s a couple faces in here that a nigga piped down, so let’s go find a place that we can sip right now,” highlighting his lifestyle. La Flame’s rapping is a great contrast to Drake’s singing earlier in the track, which led to some fans believing that he stole the show. This idea, coupled with Travis’s flow and the energy he brings to the track, lands “Company” the #4 spot.

#3: Blue Pill” by Metro Boomin: This 2017 single feels like a blast from the past, as Travis takes a dark, emotional path on the song. Metro Boomin’s production helps amplify Travis’s heartfelt, drugged out lyrics, with him riding the beat through the use of somber autotuned screams and smooth ad-libs. He raps about the copious amount of drugs he takes, singing: “Pop ‘em all you know what up, call me up when it’s over, in the Hills we get hi-iii-igh.” The autotuned screams in the background also help further emphasize the emotional, drugged out theme of the track. The chorus is mesmerizing, with Travis singing about how “I’m floating off that blue pill, blue dream” before transitioning into a melancholic scream. Metro Boomin is able to make this song reach into the darker corners of rap life. This is something that, in today’s rap game, is not often done. The song uses Travis as a way to do so, earning it the #2 spot on our list.

#2: Kelly Price” by Migos: This song is a classic and different from other Migos x Travis Scott tracks, utilizing a slow sound, as opposed to their usual upbeat trap. In this lengthy track, the rappers talk about their drug-filled lifestyles and reflect on their pasts. When Travis comes in, he talks about his drugged out nights, his general recklessness, and his various criminal activities. What differentiates this verse from all the others is how effortless Travis makes it seem. Choosing to sing lyrics like: “Treat my Lambo like a Fisher Price…I can never let her spend the night, woke up cocaine all in my hair thought it was lice,” he is still able to get a flow going and completely kills the track! His verse steals the show, and is always a welcomed surprise, earning it the #2 spot on our list.

#1:Dark Night Dummo” by Trippie Redd: This track brings out the best in Travis. While his presence on the song isn’t great, his verse makes its mark, as he is able to hop on a beat not too far off from his typical style and completely dominate it in a way that he has not shown before. He enters the track with his signature ad-libs, serving as a background to Trippie’s vocals up until the switch. When he starts rapping, he doesn’t let up, spitting fast bars that almost overwhelm the listener. Trippie ad-libs behind his verse as well, making for a loud and grand experience. The dark production by Honorable C.N.O.T.E. is something reminiscent of a horror movie, and Travis bodies it in a quick verse, with lines like: “I hop in the coupe go insane, I disappear go David Blaine” and “Move for this chain with your elbow, I hope you got aim, don’t need no more stains, or get hot like my name (La Flame!).” The ad-lib backing coupled with Travis’s bars and dark production work create something truly special, earning it the #1 spot on our list of top 4 Travis Scott features.
