October is ready to shake up the year; new horror-themed sneakers are taking over shelves and slasher films are making a return to theatres. With horror films increasing in popularity as the Halloween season approaches, we have decided to put together a list of four horror classics that you need to watch for the season.

Friday The 13th

Released in 1980, Friday The 13th follows a group of teenage camp counselors who, while enjoying their time at Camp Crystal Lake, are picked off (one by one) by an unknown killer. Throughout the film, the viewer is put through a night of suspense, mystery, and murder, leaving them to wonder who could be depraved enough to do such things. If you’re looking for a movie that’s going to keep you on the edge of your seat, Friday The 13th is the film for you.

Evil Dead

Evil Dead hit theaters in 1987, coming during Sam Raimi’s horror stint. Before kicking off a franchise of comedic-horror, Evil Dead was the thing of nightmares. The movie follows a group of teenagers, who go to spend the weekend at a cabin in the woods (you guessed it: things don’t turn out in their favor). After arriving, the trees in the woods don’t allow them to leave, and the teens are turned against each other through demonic possession, leaving the viewer restless as they try to figure out who’s going to survive. If you’ve got the stomach for it, sit down and watch Evil Dead for the horror-season.

A Nightmare on Elm Street

A Nightmare on Elm Street is the thing of nightmares. Released in 1984, this film encapsulated audiences by dipping into the world of the supernatural. It tells the story of Freddy Krueger, a child murderer turned dream demon, as he terrifies the residents of Elm Street. But there’s one twist: if they die in their dreams, they die in the real world. Can the residents of Elm Street survive the night and find a way to defeat Krueger in his hellscape? Find A Nightmare on Elm Street on streaming services, and see for yourself.

Halloween

Coming in at the top of our list is Halloween. This film arguably kicked off the slasher genre back in 1978. It follows deranged killer, Michael Myers, who, after murdering his sister as a child, grows up to continue his killing spree. This suspenseful slasher leaves the viewer wondering if Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) will be able to escape the wrath of Myers while witnessing those around her get picked off. If you want something that’s going to leave you breathless with anxiety while watching, Halloween is the horror flick for you.
