Who is The Generational Sound Shaker Pi’erre Bourne

Pi'erre Bourne

“I’ve been waiting on this moment for a long time. I’ve been studying people’s mistakes, I’ve been studying the right thing people did with their journey…I’ve taken note of that, don’t wanna play myself,” says star producer Pi’erre Bourne, highlighting his drive and passion for music. He is most famously known for his “Yo Pi’erre you wanna come out here?” tagline (taken from an actual line in The Jamie Foxx Show). It feels as if Pi’erre Bourne has been at the top of his game this past year, proving that he can produce and rap by working with the likes of Playboi Carti and Cardo Got Wings. He recently dropped his collab tape, Sli’merre, with fellow rapper and frequent collaborator Young Nudy.  On the tape, he did what he does best; produced fun and energetic beats that kept the track exciting and the listener on their toes!

Pi’erre Bourne was born Jordan Timothy Jenks on September 19, 1993. He was born in Fort Riley, Kansas, but moved around frequently as a child. Growing up, Jenks always considered Queens, New York to be his home, saying “that place never changed, my grandma’s been in the same house since before I was born…all my influences are really from up here, even the way I dress, stuff I like, and food I like.” He took most of his musical influence from the people around him, particularly his uncle and his uncle’s friends (who he had rapped with around age 11). Although he wasn’t that good, his uncle took notice of his potential and encouraged Jenks to continue rapping, giving him his old Dell laptop and putting him onto artists and new programs. Later in life, he moved to Atlanta in order to network, attend school for music, and grow as a producer, engineer, and rapper. Jenks experienced hard times during the move. There were nights where he had to sleep in his truck, and when he did finally get an apartment, his friends wanted to “trap it out.” This caused tension between the group and pushed Pi’erre to stray away and continue doing his own thing. As Pi’erre began to branch off, he started to work with K$upreme, sending him a few of his beats to work with. Little did he know, however, rapper Playboi Carti got his hands on one of his beats and made his hit song, “Magnolia.” Initially, Pi’erre Bourne was upset because Carti didn’t contact him about the beat, but one trip to the studio cleared everything up! The two became one of the most noticeable duos of the 2010s.

Since then, Pi’erre has worked with artists such as Young Nudy, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, and Juice WRLD, creating hit after hit with his distinct atmospheric and playful beats. On songs like “Victoria Secrets” and “Hacked My Instagram,” he shows how intricate he can get with his production by using crazy beat switches and complex layers. Pi’erre also proves that he can “keep up” with other rappers today, being able to ride the beat without making it seem lazy. He’s one of the pioneers of a new atmospheric type of rap, and he can only go up from this point on.

Pi’erre recently dropped his joint album, Sli’merre, with Young Nudy, and has been teasing his upcoming project, The Life of Pi’erre 4, for the past few years. He has yet to release an official solo album but has dropped three mixtapes. He’s constantly working, sometimes even choosing to turn his phone off for days. It will be exciting to see what he’s got in store for fans next. He is expected to be featured on Playboi Carti’s upcoming album, Whole Lotta Red.
