Yeat’s ‘2 Alivë’ Delivers A Unique Roster Of Talents and Sounds

2 alive

Gone are the days of the SoundCloud Era. Instead, underground rappers are making a name for themselves on TikTok, with the biggest being Yeat. Yeat saw major success through the app in 2021, success that he’s now capitalizing on with his latest album, 2 Alivë.

Following a brief delay, 2 Alivë was released on February 18, 2022. It was initially scheduled to arrive in January, but was pushed back for unknown reasons. In my opinion, in spite of the delay, 2 Alivë was worth the wait, as it has features from the likes of Gunna and Young Thug. On top of these features, the album also boasts appearances from underground artists such as Ken Carson.

Following its release, the album quickly went #1 on Apple Music. To celebrate, Yeat hosted a listening party at The Roxy Theatre in Hollywood that ended up getting shut down by police due to the amount of people trying to get into the venue. It’s safe to say I’m not the only one who believes 2 Alivë was worth the wait.

Check out the full tracklist below.

  1. “Poppin”
  2. “Outsidë” feat. Young Thug
  3. “Rëal six”
  4. “Nvr again”
  5. “Luh gëek”
  6. “Rackz got më” feat. Gunna
  7. “Doublë”
  8. “On tha linë”
  9. “Jus bëtter
  10.  “Jump”
  11.  “Dnt lië”
  12.  “Rollin”
  13.  “Taliban”
  14.  “Narcoticz” feat. Yung Kayo
  15.  “Call më”
  16.  “Kant dië”
  17.  “Gëek high” feat. Ken Carson
  18.  “Luh m” feat. SeptembersRich
  19.  “Smooktobër”
  20.  “Still countin”

This hefty 20-track album not only boasts star-studded features, but production from the likes of Trgc, Rision, BenjiCold, Frankie Bash, and others. This team of producers creates a soundscape full of eclectic synths, 808s and bells, laying the groundwork for Yeat’s equally eclectic flow.

Although the album has star-studded features and a full roster of producers, Yeat still takes over the stage. On tracks like “Rëal six” and “Smooktobër,” his performance is full of punch-in bars and a slurred cadence. This performance paired with the production creates a listening experience that is fresh and authentic to his sound; he’s already shown that he can put on a similar performance with past projects. Unfortunately, the hefty tracklist creates a sense of repetition the more you listen.

There are definitely some tracks that could have been cut on 2 Alivë. Personally, I could have done without “Jump” and “Call më,” because even though Yeat tried to switch things up on the latter, both sound like filler tracks due to their similarity to the rest of the album.

On top of this, tracks that had already been leaked appeared on the album (take a look at “Luh gëek”) and could have been cut. I understand wanting to stretch out the tracklist for streaming purposes, but if it takes away from the overall project, I feel it isn’t worth it. If I had to compare Yeat’s last three albums, I’d say 2 Alivë falls in between Up 2 Më and 4L. It’s a fun listen in its own regard, but it isn’t his best work in my opinion. Nonetheless, it’s still a great album in terms of sound, as it diverges itself from other music hitting shelves today.

What are your thoughts on Yeat’s new 2 Alivë album? Do you feel it’s his best work, or would you place his other albums ahead? Do you feel the new album deserved to go #1 on Apple Music? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comment section. We’re excited to hear your take!
